Like all of you, I am learning so much now, and I see, like never before, how much more I have to learn. One thing I am doing to feed my soul, is read Francis Su's book, Mathematics of Human Flourishing. He is making the case that mathematics nurtures us and feeds our souls, that our communities need to develop Mathematical Affection like they have affection for art and and sports and museums. He is arguing that mathematics education ought to attend to values and intangibles like play, truth, struggle, beauty, justice, love (which are 6 of the 13 chapter titles). He includes intriguing puzzles and math tasks in each chapter to demonstrate how these intangibles come through. [Check out our Book Study page, if you'd like to join us in reading and reflecting about Dr. Su's work.]
