FOCUS ON STUDENT THINKING: ENGAGE & REFLECT (FOSTER)
The Focus On Student Thinking: Engage & Reflect (FOSTER) program is a virtual Zoom series for K-12 mathematics teachers where we can focus on student thinking and reflect on what learning is like for students.
As we reflect, we will also deepen your understanding of mathematics and engage with peers to unpack the teaching of mathematics. Between each session we will share opportunities for you to stay connected with fellow teachers on "tasks to try" before the next session. All activities will be led by Deb Stetson and Sayonita Ghosh Hajra.
Here are the topics we will be covering at each session:
Experience inclusion activities & build community
Problem solving, engaging in discourse, and question-posing
Open exploration and identify questions to extend thinking
Explore different technology & tools
scholarship (and stipend) opportunity
Thank you to the Math and Science Teacher Initiative we are able to offer a limited number of scholarships this year!
To qualify teachers must:
attend all six FOSTER Zoom sessions
fill out a pre and post survey for the year
attend one 60-minute group reflection meeting with Deb Stetson
Teachers that receive the scholarship will receive free registration to all six zoom events, and choose between a stipend for $150 OR classroom supplies up to $150.
If more teachers apply than we have funding for, consideration will be given to teachers who do not already have access to other outside funding sources. The application deadline has been extended to October 15th due to issues with our application platform. Confirmation for scholarship recipients will be sent out on a rolling basis.
The fine print
The cost per session is $25.00
Each session will be held via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent out the Monday before each event.
