SAME Student Competition

Below is information on how you can enter your students in the Math Student Competition, winners will be invited to share their solutions with teachers at the annual SAME Math Conference. For more information on how to attend the conference please visit the SAME website.

See the video posing the  problem below! Students of grades 3 through 12 will be offered the opportunity to compete and submit their explanations of their solutions to the straw question below.  Explanations can be written, audio, video or a combination thereof.  Submissions will be evaluated on the content and clarity of the explanation and not on the type of medium used to communicate it.  Teacher attendees at the conference will be able to peruse the student work and talk to student competitors (winners from each grade level). Judges will score each submission on the basis of a rubric. Top achievers at each grade level will be recognized and awarded prizes.

Check out the problem and more information on student competition by following the links and reading the rules below. Teachers, please email Lori Fury at lfury@wpusd.org to let her know if you will have students entering the competition.  Each teacher can submit 2 student entries, but you can have your own internal class competition, and then send the 2 best entries in to be part of our competition.
